"History is written by the victors..."

The history of any civilization relies on the memory of those in power at the time to tell accurate accounts. What we realize is that nearly all of our tales of collective identity, triumph, culture, religion, and other forms of belonging and tradition come from enlightened member(s) of our group: one who is steeped in privilege, rank, and designated the record-keeper . The only problem with that is that history is written by the victors and those who critique the merit of the story are usually branded a threat to order.

Anti-Oppressive Advocacy®

is a framework dedicated to deconstructing the “one larger narrative” to validate the truths of those previously erased and deemed inferior.

Wanda’s Secret Research Product

This framework has its origins in a Call To Action Wanda received nine years ago from a mentor in the anti-violence field. After becoming frustrated with how higher education Title IX systems severely punished survivors of color for coming forward, she was left blaming herself and looking for direction. It was in the stern direction of a mentor who suggested she find the Black founders of the anti-violence movement to better learn how the anti-violence field has grossly erased and failed Black survivors.

What she had originally thought would take an hour’s lunch break to figure out became a multi-year independent research project that led her to Black feminist abolitionism, a service provision that prioritizes the interconnection of all oppressive ills. Anti-Oppressive Advocacy® is a derivative of this provision that demands service providers in human-centered industries to seek out and expand all the narratives that comprise the history of their organizational culture and the ways that an allegiance to anti-Black rhetoric and White Supremacy culture results in oppressive service provision and continual harm to already marginalized groups.

The framework provides us with two facts upon which our engagement strategies rest:

Fact One

The Strategy of Whiteness™ Was Formed From an Incomplete Thought

White Superiority is a helluva drug, y’all. What many haven’t learned is that it is also a conscious strategy developed to solve one problem: sustaining capitalism. A historical backdrop of the history of “Whiteness” in this country finds us with much more than unpacking a race of people.

To understand and dismantle White Supremacy is to understand the Throuple of Whiteness(™):

To understand and dismantle White Supremacy is to understand the Throuple of Whiteness(™):

Whiteness as

a strategy

a racial marker

an ideology

Whiteness as

a strategy

a racial marker

an ideology

These three components are the cornerstones of how white supremacy is able to service some while ultimately serving none of us.

White Supremacy tells us what to think about ourselves and others who don’t look like us. It tells us whose humanity deserves to be fully recognized and whose does not.

Fact Two

Anti-Blackness Is a Vehicle That Validates Dehumanizing Black Folx

Anti-Blackness is an international compact that secures the ideology of a large laboring force working for a small few. Anti-Oppressive Advocacy®, as a framework, prioritizes how that ideology, those messages, found their way into our homes, our learning institutions, churches, offices, laws and policies.

Anti-Blackness is all of our default and it’s how we all make decisions about where to live, where to work, who to befriend, what music to listen to, etc. Our work lies in unraveling these messages, separating ourselves from the Throuple, and dismantling White Supremacy for the betterment of all.

What makes this framework unique?

Anti-Oppressive Advocacy® is a framework that demands professionals interrogate, not only their own relationship with anti-Blackness and White Supremacy but how the messages of these social defaults found their way into their field’s protocol, policy, and culture. It is derived from Black feminist abolitionism and asks that we see all oppressive ills as being of equal interconnected importance.

Anti-Oppressive Advocacy® further helps us to see that Black Feminist Abolitionism understands that sexual violence is connected to racism and sexism which is connected to housing and job inequity which is connected to domestic violence which is connected to food inequity which is connected to the over-policing of communities of color which is connected to crime which is connected to an unjust judicial system which is connected to longer sentencing for minoritized offenders which is connected to the systemic criminalization of Black and Brown skin which is connected to the model minority myth which is connected to voter suppression which is connected to red lining which is connected to the school to prison pipeline which is connected to sex trafficking which is connected to health disparities which is connected to police brutality which is connected to queer and trans violence which is connected to children being in cages which is connected to anti-Blackness which is all rooted in White Supremacy.
